My submission for the Two for the Crew challenge is a toothbrush + toothpick called the BrushPick. It is 5 inches long and half an inch wide. On one end of the BrushPick will be a typical toothbrush head with closely packed together bristles on the head. On the other end will be a sharp end, designed to act as a tooth pick. Dental hygiene is very important, no matter if you’re on Earth or in space. It would be efficient to combine the toothbrush with the toothpick, as you can reuse the same toothpick without having to bring a whole pack of them. Let’s say you bring a 300 pack of toothpicks into space for your hygiene. If each toothpick is about 0.1 grams, the whole thing would weigh at least 30 grams. Currently, it costs $10,000 to bring a pound of cargo into space. There are about 0.07 pounds in 30 grams, which would equal to $700 to bring TOOTHPICKS into space! This is why the BrushPick would be efficient and it wouldn’t cost anything to bring into space (as it would be 3D printed!)
