How do you turn your amazing idea into a 3D print? You have to make a 3D model! Here are a few programs available free for students. We recommend starting with the free beginner tutorials that come with the software program you choose. After you've learned the basics, then create something – anything! Or learn more with the lessons we've linked to below. It's not easy to make a 3D model, but soon you'll be a pro!

Make basic 3D models by stacking blocks together to create interesting 3D shapes. Good for beginner students to get interested in 3D design and 3D printing. COPPA compliant site for kids under 13.

Mac or PC (Cloud Connected)

Take your skills to the next level with Fusion 360, a professional 3D design tool. It's good for making basic parametric shapes or complicated curves. All Autodesk products are offered FREE for students, but you do need a student license to run the program.

Mac or PC (Desktop Version)

Meshmixer is free tool for prepping STL files for 3D printing. It can be used to analyze and repair models, measure overall dimensions, and calculate volume. Be sure to export your STL file as ONE part for 3D printing when you're done!
