In 1998, the international space station was launched for the sole purpose of understanding the effects of working and living in space on the human body. The problem faced by astronauts on a daily basis is that there is a lack of space for resources aboard the ISS. The project I have designed effectively solves this problem, as it is a small (but expandable) unit that can store apparatus used in the testing of bodily fluids from astronauts. The device, when expanded, can hold up to 11 standard test tubes measuring 12mm x 75mm, as well as 4 Petri dishes (commonly used for bacterial analyzation) measuring 60mm x 15mm. If the device is printed aboard the ISS, it could serve as a very effective solution to the "sample storage" issue currently faced by astronauts.
