Drought is a very serious problem that is occurring all around the United States. Specifically, it affects the communities that rely on agriculture and agribusiness such as here in Kentucky. According to Drought.gov, around 62% of the United States is affected by drought. 50% of Kentucky's around 3.8 million people are heavily affected by droughts. In the last five years, droughts have cost the US 69 billion dollars (Drought.gov) As a solution we should genetically modify a heat-resistant plant like corn, wheat, and/or soybeans. The plant would be able to survive a summer-long drought with little to no water but would still grow just like a normal plant would. It will allow drought-affected people and farmers to continue eating and producing crops. I think that this solution can help people and other states affected by drought.
