My design is a sewing ruler-seam gauge combo tool. When browsing the catalogue of items on the ISS, I noticed that the sewing kit was unnecessarily clunky for repair tasks. For those who do not know, a seam gauge (also known as a sewing gauge) is a tool used to mark hems for repairs and alterations. My creation combines a ruler (as each cross hash mark represents one cm) and a seam gauge (because having holes at each cm mark allows a pen or chalk to get in between and mark the area that needs to be sewn). My tool will make it easy and approachable for astronauts to repair their clothing, which is important because it is not feasible to launch a mission just to deliver a new t-shirt!
