About 7,000 acres of land are impacted by around 1,500 forest fires in New Jersey annually. These statistics are predicted to increase as time goes on. Wildfires destroy human and animal habitats, wipe out species and populations, and destroy access to natural resources and farming. These fires impact the state as a whole and two methods can be taken through two key measures. Many people do not recognize the impact that forest fires have on their lives. From teaching students at a young age about the dangers of forest fires, students will recognize the impact their actions have on the environment. Young adults will be educated throughout their lives and will be aware of how to prevent these fires and measures to take in case one breaks out. Additionally, by creating technology that is placed throughout forests, fires will be able to be detected at a much earlier stage. Using flame detectors that find fires through infrared light, park rangers, and firefighters will be able to find fires within the forests from these posts of technology in the ground. Forest fires are dangerous but can be dealt with. By implementing these methods in the community, NJ can practice safe behavior.
