While New Jersey is usually pretty rainy, as climate change continues to worsen so does the problem of flooding. Especially in coastal communities and in communities where housing is more affordable, flooding is becoming a bigger problem. Flooding is now becoming a more common occurrence in New Jersey, along with other problems that the region is also facing. It affects the costs of maintenance and properties in NJ, it has an effect on plant life as flooding can cause plants to die and soil to become weaker, and it is predicted to worsen over the years. Despite New Jersey mandating Global Warming awareness in all Public Schools, and Global Warming being a very commonly known phenomenon, not much is being done about it. A more feasible solution would be to make people aware of the flooding issue and go over procedures that would need to be followed in order to prevent flooding, before talking about the cause of the mass floods. Procedures include building mud walls around bodies of water like how Hurricane Sandy was handled, and better infastructure that can withstand flooding and can hold up soil.
