New Jersey struggles to maintain its coasts with the continuous rising of sea levels and flooding. This results from the increased rainfall caused by changes in the area's climate. As sea levels continue to rise, New Jersey coastlines are slowly moving inwards, diminishing its beaches and shores. In order to combat this rising issue, I propose creating a drainage system that relocates water from overflooding rivers back to the ocean before the water exceeds the height of riverbanks. Similar to the concept of a bathroom sink, there will be an opening along the top of the river, in which water would flow into it and through underground infrastructure and be diverted back towards the ocean if water levels were to rise too high. This would prevent excessive flooding in areas near local waterways such as rivers and streams.
