Much of New Jersey roads are bombarded with traffic every single day. Whether it’s the holidays, the summer, or a Monday, driving in the garden state is something highly dreaded. New Jersey is ranked as the number one worst state to drive in in America. Sea levels are expected to rise 5.1 feet by 2100. This will make docks, roads, and processing plants at risk of flooding. Since driving conditions are already undesirable, flooding would be catastrophic. To prevent this, diversion barriers will be built around roads susceptible to flooding. They will channel the water trying to flood the roads to viable locations, such as filtration centers and marshes. This will benefit other places, while also protecting the roads. Besides the roads being flooded, damage to the roads after the flooding would occur can cause many more problems. In addition, all roads in danger of flooding will have to be evaluated if they are safe. For example, gravel roads will either need to become paved roads or higher cross-falls. In conclusion, the diversion barriers will not only protect the roads from flooding but will also prevent any additional damages flooding can cause and benefit areas that need water.
