Building a green garden reservoir surrounding the sewer outflow gate at Edgewater Beach will help to capture and filtrate sewer overflow. The diameter of the gate is 10’ in diameter and 10,000 lbs. The sewer outflow gate overflows 336.6 Mg of raw sewage into Lake Erie per year. The amount of pressure that requires the gate to open is 127.32. I designed my reservoir to hold 100 Mg of liquids based on the amount of overflow that happens when Cleveland experiences high precipitation. The outer area of the reservoir is 12,000,000 ft3, the inner area is 10,150,625 ft3 and the concrete wall is 13.75 ft thick. The concrete walls adjacent to the green gardens will have openings for the sewage water to flow into the gardens. The gardens will have a bottom layer of gravel, a middle layer of finer gravel, and a layer of topsoil. The plants that will be grown are native to Cleveland's area. The gardens are set up this way to allow for healthy filtration. Once the water filtrates it will trickle into Lake Erie.
