Climate change has disrupted my island's weather and beaches. Every day I am saddened to know that we are slowly sinking. When finding ways to stop it, I found out about petroleum jelly. When thinking on how to easily cure minor injuries, pomades and ointments are usually our first thought. Nevertheless, the very things that we use to heal ourselves are, in turn, destroying our planet. One of the leading causes of climate change is petroleum. Petroleum jelly, a product used all over the world, is derived from petroleum. This product can also be known as Vaseline, and it is an ingredient seen in almost every ointment, including but not limited to "Neosporin". This ingredient isn't limited to human products, in fact it is widely used in animal pomades such as "Corona: multi-purpose ointment", an ointment used commonly on horses. To help our planet, we must use less "petroleum jelly" and use substitutes, such as: Shea Butter, Beeswax, Cocoa Butter etc. We may not be able to stop the use of Petroleum all together, but we can help decrease it.
