I want to propose a way for coastal cities to have more green energy other than solar. My idea is to have a blimp with a turbine to utilize ocean winds with the wires holding it, transferring the energy back to the ground to power the infrastructure attached. The higher the altitude, the stronger the wind, so why not utilize this renewable natural phenomenon? In Myrtle Beach, the largest source of green power is individual houses with solar panels. Yet, we decided not to look towards the sky as an energy source. The city could produce green power while not taking up space for tourists while using existing infrastructure for sustainability. Myrtle Beach could use the fishing piers for the sky turbine to be out over the ocean, where winds would be even greater than fields where ground-based wind turbines exist. The proposed design would also allow the sky turbine to move if the situation calls for it. Also, with the location, it can collect data for research in collaboration with local universities.
