By reducing food waste, we can decrease carbon and methane emissions, which are leading causes of climate change, and also contribute to the elimination of world hunger. According to the United Nations, a third of all worldwide carbon emissions every year are related to food production and waste management, and according to the Environmental Protection Agency, 66 million tons of food waste was generated in 2019, of which 60% was sent to landfills. In order to combat climate change, we envisioned the creation of an app called "Give N' Gather" that would allow people to donate food (extra dishes, produce that didn't sell, etc.) in order to eliminate food waste. Through the correct management of unutilized food, we can greatly mitigate carbon and methane emissions which will in turn mitigate and fight climate change.
