Bullfrogs are a invasive species that have appeared in Wyoming, outcompeting the native species northern leopard frog. Bullfrogs can lay up to 12,000 eggs 3 times in a single season, the breeding season is April through August. As to the northern leopard frog only lays 645-7,648 eggs only once per year. Instead of releasing bullfrogs into the community, why not release adult native Northern Leopard frogs? This will increase the population of the native frogs and hopefully decrease the population of the bullfrogs, meaning they are finally able to successfully compete with the bullfrogs. Another possibility is to drain all ponds and still standing water during winter and fill them back up in March, just in time for breeding season for the Northern leopard frog. A way to reduce the bullfrog population is to eradicate adults in areas they have taken over as well as removing any eggs. This solution will not only increase the population of the Northern leopard frog increasing the diversity in our ecosystem, but decrease the numbers of bullfrogs. This will not be a short plan, but a plan that lasts a few years.
