Plants and trees do many things to protect our environment and even our human habitats. Trees on hillsides can hold the ground together and prevent landslides. Plants in general also absorb water from the ground and help with flooding. Not only that, but you can design specific planters that absorb lots of water. So in order to help combat flash flooding and flooding in general, we propse that our county and cities conduct surveys to find unsed lots (with hard surfaces such as asphalt) and parking spaces that can be replaced by water absorbing planters. If enough planters are built across a city or county, especially in a place with massive flat top parking lots like suburbia, the effect of flooding can be hindered and help prevent people from losing their homes, and maybe, even their lives.
