As the threat of wildfires grows in my community, I and my community need to be more resilient by taking action. Ever since the wildfires during quarantine that led to the evacuation of many of my neighbors and almost my family, I have developed a plan of action for wildfire resilience. As part of my proposed course of action, I would make an effort to reduce exposure to the susceptibility of fires, and when people are at risk of wildfires, I would put a warning system in place that uses satellite images to notify and let people know where there is a fire in their area. This will have real-time detection, which will help get that important message to fire departments and people alike. By doing this, my community can lessen the effects of wildfires, protect vulnerable places and people, and lower the risk of even more destruction than the fires already caused, by improving early detection of fires. This strategy, as well as the “Steps to Wildfire Resistance” on my poster, will promote more resilience in my community and can effectively respond to the growing threat of wildfires that comes with the summer, and it can save lives.
