California has struggled with droughts ever since 1841. My community suffered through this lack of water, and with global warming, has only severed. Scientists predict that by 2050, snowpack, which plays a critical role in our water cycle and water source, will decline to 2/3 of historical levels. If we let our water disappear, we would have water shortages, health complications, an increase in wildfires, agricultural losses, and damage to our ecosystems. Although there have been effects to conserve our water, proved ineffective, and at best, decreased water usage by 6%. To preserve our water, and gain consciousness of my community, I propose “rain chains”. Rain chains help guide the flow of water from the roof, preventing erosion, heavy runoff, and waterlogging. With the collaboration of high school students, parents, or homeowners, we can motivate purchases and installation of rain chains, which would help advertise and therefore help us with production. Unlike other solutions, rain chains provide greater accessibility, reaching a wider range of people, and serve not only as decor but irrigation. By taking advantage of appeals and functionality, I am confident I can gain help from my community to overcome this reassuring problem to produce healthier long-term results.
