One of my cities largest threats caused by climate change is urban flooding. During the rainy season it is not uncommon for roads to be closed due to flooding, this harms the community as businesses cannot operate and city structure is damaged. Due to more severe weather caused by climate change, large floods have become more common. By planting native plants in popular flooding areas we can reduce the severity of large floods, the root systems in th native plants have higher water absorbent factors, allowing more intake of water instead of lawn grasses or decorative plants that absorb little water. The plan is to build a community that wants these native plants in areas that hold water during floods or areas that hold water. The plants would be specifically planted at road medians or around sidewalks.
