In a three month period from August to October 2023, wildfires in Louisiana had burned more than 60,000 acres, and forced evacuations across several towns in the state. At least 100 Louisiana National Guard troops were put on standby as several wildfires were contained. The most significant fire, the Tiger Island fire in Beauregard Parish, was the largest wildfire recorded in the state, burning over 50,000 acres. Humans weren’t the only ones affected though, animals were having to run and try and seek shelter. When wildfires erupt, animals do their best to move out of the direct path of the flames while staying close to their homes if they can find a safe place. Unfortunately there are no ways to predict a wildfire, but there are many ways you can prevent it from happening. Wildfires in Louisiana can be minimized by using building construction methods that reduce building ignition and maintaining defensible spaces
