Each year, greenhouse gasses rise at alarming rates and threaten the environment, including the food we grow. According to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, the state is responsible for 3.8% of the national greenhouse gas emissions, which, compared to the size of the state and the population, is a lot. The main source of Louisiana's carbon emissions is the burning of fossil fuels, this includes cars, agriculture, and power plants. Power plants produce 15% of Lousisna’s fuel combustion, as natural gasses are the largest electricity source in the state. This creates a problem, as one of Louisiana’s main cash crops is rice; fields are drying up and droughts are occurring due to global warming. There are different ways of producing electricity, but due to the price, marshy lands, and the constantly changing environment, windmills and solar panels are not ideal. So instead of finding more ways to produce power, there should be fewer ways to use power. Easy ways that everybody can save power are turning off lights in rooms not in use, and turning off AC/heating units when leaving homes for long periods.
