In the summer of 2023, Louisiana experienced record-breaking heat and drought. Because of this, over 60,000 acres of land have been destroyed due to wildfires. To put this into perspective, there were over 440 wildfires in August. With this, however, there are many ways we can help reduce the amount of wildfires. For instance, we should be checking our conditions and the status of burn bans before lighting a fire or using fireworks. Residents could also stop being so careless with disposing of cigarettes and matches. Leaving either of these lying around on the dry ground could spark up a fire very quickly. If Louisiana residents put in the effort, we should have fewer problems with wildfires in the future.
