Florida is known as the “Sunshine State” but by 2100 it might be called the Drowned State since it’s predicted that by 2100, 98% of homes in Miami Beach will be below sea level. I won’t give my home up without a fight or a swim. People aren’t worried about the rising sea level since it’ll affect the future, but the future is our kids and grandkids. We need to do our part now before it’s too late. My solution is to implement a federal carbon tax, tax would discourage polluting activities, it also provides incentives for research, investment, and deployment of more efficient and low emission alternatives. The tax is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the price of fossil fuels. Greenhouse’s gases trap energy from the sun causing our oceans to heat up more and therefore resulting in rising sea levels. If we don’t implement a Federal Carbon tax, future generations will experience unbearable heat, rising sea levels, and hazardous climate events. There’s already proof this solution works since California has been able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 14% since implementing a Federal Carbon tax in 2012. Let’s keep the future generation from living underwater.
