Hurricane season in Louisiana can be a stressful time especially in south Louisiana. Even though we “prepare” every year by stocking up on non-perishable foods, generators and gas. But sometimes it's the aftermath that gets us. Especially when it's the flood waters that creep up on us and not just the eye of the storm. In these times some people have to evacuate immediately and dont either have the means or space to take their animals. Some people themselves can't even get out in time. A hurricane can drop over a foot of water in a small amount of time. This overwhelms the creeks, ditches and drainage systems. When this happens people start to panic and they don't have a plan for their animals. If a neighbor has to help them evacuate they may not allow their animal, in that case the animal is left to survive by themselves. An animal's instincts would be to get to higher ground to survive, sometimes this leaves them stranded in attics or rooftops.
