Climate change has brought unprecedented levels of rainfall to the community of Belmont. Regardless of California’s imminent drought, Belmont faces flooding and subsequent power outages. I propose that we create an expansive drainage system that leads water away from homes and roads. The water collected in these drains can then be used to create renewable energy. Water would be heated and converted to steam that would push a turbine to generate electricity. Because the water would recondense, this process could continue indefinitely. With this plan Belmont could counteract the flooding that obstructs roads and damages houses while also maintaining city wide electricity.
