Wildfires are very common in California and cause mass destruction throughout the ecosystem. Apart from property damage, they end up killing many animals, including some which have a very small existing population. My solution is genetically modifying trees in high-risk areas, and possibly modifying the dry grasslands themselves. For trees, with CRISPR technology we would combine the fire-resistant Oaks with all the native tree populations and breed fire-resistant breeds. We would do the same with grass/bush plants, but breeding in the fire-resistant genes of the Sage and Lilac plants. This would reduce the wildfire possibility in critical areas to nearly zero.
