Flooding has been a major problem for many years, and recently, the problem has only gotten worse due to climate change. One solution to this problem is permeable surfaces. The benefit to permeable surfaces is that they allow water to percolate into the soil and it filters out the pollutants. The more water that goes into the soil, the less that goes into storm drains. Permeable surfaces will effectively reduce pressure on urban drainage, and reduce the risk of stormwater flood.
