The Micro-Gravity Nail Catcher (MGNC) is a container used to ensure both safety and convenience to astronauts when trimming their nails. In Chris Hadfield’s video about how astronauts currently cut their nails in space (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xICkLB3vAeU) the air vent is not always effective and Hadfield must stay on his toes to catch rouge nails which can drift into astronauts’ eyes, mouth or even experiments. With my design the danger of nails floating away is eliminated. The box uses a 3D printable see-through mesh to catch nails while allowing for maximum visibility. The MGNC is simple to use with one small hole for the user’s finger to be inserted. There is a large hole on the opposite side to insert nail clippers. The front of the box can be removed from its alignment pegs, allowing for easy nail disposal. The MGNC can save astronauts valuable time, hassle and prevent contamination issues.
