The three toed sloth is found in the Amazon rainforest in South America. It lives its life in the trees of the canopy and eats the leaves from the trees. Sloths use their long, sharp claws to grip onto the trees so they don’t fall off. But what if there were no leaves to eat, no trees to climb or sleep in, or no protection from predators? The sloth would need to adapt to its new environment. The sloth would need claws that would be straight and short instead of curved, so they could walk easily on the ground. Their teeth would also change because they won’t eat plants and leaves anymore. Sloths would be carnivores so their teeth would be sharp instead of flat. They would also have to be careful because of the predators. There would be no more trees for them to be able to camouflage into.
