Hoffmann’s two-toed sloths live in the coastal rainforests on the pacific coast of Central America and northern South America. They live in the canopy layer of the rainforest, the second highest layer. They eat many different species of plants so they can live in many different areas of the rainforest. The only natural predators they currently have are harpy eagles but they still have adapted to have long claws and teeth. They also grow algae on their fur for camouflage. Due to the polar ice caps melting, the sea levels are rising and will eventually flood the coastal rainforests of the world and the rising temperatures will turn the coastal rainforests into brackish water marshes. Due to the salt in the water, sloths will adapt to have reticulate kidneys that are similar to the kidneys otters have. They will also become omnivorous and start eating fish.
