The Western Green Mamba currently lives in a Coastal Rainforest habitat in Western Africa. Coastal Rainforests are thick and dense rainforests. After sea levels rise due to climate change, Coastal Rainforests will probably be submerged. That means the mamba becomes a sea snake. An adaptation the Western Water Snake gains is its board-like tail to swim and two jet-propulsion holes that push it forward very fast. The snake develops black and white scales that help it blend in with the coral to hide from predators and gains gills to breathe underwater. According to Earth.Org, 2 meters of coastline erode annually in some Green Mamba habitats, specifically Togo and Benin. At this rate, I think the Togo and Benin Rainforest will be underwater in 10,000 years. The Western Green Mambas living in Togo and Benin will become extinct, but the Mambas that live elsewhere will have time to adapt.
