The Amazonian Manatees are the smallest member of the manatee family. They can be distinguished by the lack of vestigial nails on their flippers and smoother rubbery skin. They live in shallow waters while their predators mostly live in deep areas of water. They see well with their small eyes but are slow moving and have special grinding teeth since they are herbivores. In the future this is going to change since the water has now been polluted with toxic waste and other particles that make the water brownish. They have a discoloration of skin to help camouflage into the water and are omnivores with tusks since the lack of non-toxic plants to eat. They have webbed flippers and a split tail to swim fast away from predators. They also have tough skin so when they try to catch live animals they are not hurt by their sharp defenses.
