Poison Dart Frog Present The poison dart frog is one of the most toxic vertebrates in the world. Varying in size from about 1.5 inches, the golden poison dart frog has enough poison to kill ten men. These frogs are endangered due to deforestation, pollution, and a fungal disease called chytrid fungus. They have only one natural predator, the fire-bellied snake, which has evolved to be immune to the frog. Future Poison dart frogs have few natural threats, so they probably won’t evolve drastically. Poison dart frogs get their poison from a strict diet of certain small insects. They take chemicals from the insects and combine them to create their poison. They could gain the ability to produce poison with a less strict diet. They could also gain immunity to chytrid fungus, a fungal disease that can be fatal to poison dart frogs.
