The Amazon Climbing Salamander is a 3 ½ inch-long amphibian with webbed toes and a long tail. However, as the Earth is going through climate change, many animals like this salamander will need to evolve to survive in a warmer, sometimes dryer climate. Firstly, the salamander of the future may evolve to be larger due to the lack of as many wet areas for the salamander, which would cause it to walk on land more. Secondly, the salamander may no longer need its webbed feet because of decreasing water levels in the Amazon, so it may develop small claws for defense and better land mobility. Lastly, the future salamander’s tail may become thicker and more muscular to help with balance and defense from other animals. I believe that these evolutions will help the Amazon Climbing Salamander to survive in the changing climate.
