Capybaras are giant cavy rodents that are the largest known living rodents. Other than Chile, they live all throughout South American rainforests. Their habitats include lakes, ponds, rivers, swamps, and marshes. Climate change will make the waters deeper, and the land drier. Their main predators are jaguars, caimans, and anacondas. They protect themselves by biting. Their pale brown fur provides camouflage in murky waters. They live in large groups of extended family ranging from 2-30 capys. This includes one male leader. They can eat about 6-8 lbs of grass per day. They’ll eat reeds, grains, melons, and squashes as well. Capybaras are Hydrochoerus and can be lesser or greater. "Nature's ottoman" is the nickname they're given. This is because other animals love to relax on their flat backs. Capybaras love to bathe in oranges or yuzu. It seems to help their skin, and helps them relax. (illustrated on Procreate app)
