The common potoo bird lives in the Amazon Rainforest. It has long wings and tail to help guide itself through the air. It has a large, wide mouth used to catch flying insects like a butterfly net. In thousands of years, climate change will result in fewer trees that are farther apart in the Amazon River basin. The potoo currently lives in trees; if there are fewer trees in the future, the common potoo will need to develop different pigmentation so that it can more easily blend into the ground. The beak of the potoo will need to become more pointed and narrow to catch insects on the ground. The currently nocturnal bird will become diurnal so it can see the movement of insects on the ground.
