Giant river otters have developed many adaptations that help them survive in the Amazon River. They have narrow bodies and flat heads so that they can swim fast in the water. They prey on small fish and are apex predators. River otters have webbed feet that help them push water to swim faster. Lastly, river otters can use their tails as rudders in the river. Due to climate change, sea ice will melt and the area around the Amazon River will flood. My adapted otter (The Beaver Otter) will be smaller to avoid other predators that will adapt to live in the river. They will also have green fur to blend in with the seagrass and camouflage. It will have gills to breathe in the water and will develop a second clear eyelid to keep mud out of their eyes. In the future, otters will adapt to the changing environment.
