The first two changes I would make are to change their feet to be webbed and change from breathing through their nose to breathing through gills. These two changes would allow the capybara to live in the water of the flooding coastal region, and swim properly. The next two adaptations I made were to optimize the speed and vision of the capybara underwater. Making the eyes larger increases the capybara’s vision in murky water. Adapting the fur to be shorter allows the capybara to swim faster in the water and be less friction engaging. The final adaptation I would create would be the altering of the diet so that the capybara does not have to go on land to eat grass. The adaptation would be a change from a primarily grass diet to a primarily seaweed based diet.
