Phractocephalus hemioliopterus or the Red-tail catfish is a freshwater species native to the Amazon River. It is known for its reddish orange fins this special catfish can grow up to 5 feet in length and weigh over 100 pounds. The Red-tail catfish thrives in slow-moving and heavily vegetated waters. It is a aggressive carnivore that preys on smaller fish and other invertebrates. its impressive appearance and size require careful care and responsible ownership. After droughts in the amazon river became more frequent the future red-tail catfish had to develop special adaptations in order to survive such as fins and whiskers that are placed on the catfish's side to prevent touching the bottom of the river or lake. This species also had to adapt to change its tail and fins so they didnt stick out of the water and be seen by prey or predators
