The modern capybara is a mammal that lives throughout countries in South America. It needs water to moisten its dry skin and for food, as the capybara feeds on water plants. Climate change will greatly reduce water levels and make the capybara's habitat dry. To combat this, the capybara will have softer fur that retains moisture better. It will have a smaller body so that it can regulate its temperature. The future capybara will also have larger feet with claws to dig burrows and stay cool during hot temperatures.
