Scarlet Macaws in the Amazon currently live in a lush environment providing them with shelter and food. As climate change continues to rise, the consequences will impact these beautiful macaws. With wildfires increasing, rainforests turning into a grassland with low tree density. This could eventually lead to birds living on the ground for survival. This change in habitat could result in several evolutionary changes. For example, Macaws could have longer legs, like those of an Ostrich, to run across land to catch prey. Any potential threats on land could result in camouflage and the change of bright red feathers to dull browns and grey. Another impact could be on its diet. Rather than having a variety of fruits and nuts from their trees, macaws would have to adapt and mainly consume ground insects and small shrubs. Climate change poses many problems for wildlife in the Amazon, forcing them into adaptation.
