Pygmy three-toed sloths live in the Central and South American rainforests. They have long claws and curved feet for holding onto branches. They eat poisonous leaves, so their metabolism is prolonged to process the poison. They're surprisingly good swimmers but terrible at walking. In the future, the climate will be hotter and drier, with fewer trees. To adapt to this, sloths will have to walk more to get from tree to tree, so their feet will be flatter, and they will have ankles. Their bodies will be smaller, so they won't need as much food. Their claws will be optimal for scooping water. Finally, long hairs will shade their eyes from dust and sunlight.
