The South American Tapir is a unique creature with a prehensile snout called a proboscis. They can grab leaves and stems up to 3 meters from the ground. Unfortunately, their environment is being shut down by climate change, deforestation, road development, and hunting. The new tapir exhibits a shorter snout for consuming grass, a lighter color for better camouflage, and toes that help them walk on harder ground.
