A sloth is a member of the superorder xenarthra which also includes animals such as anteaters and armadillos. Two of the ancestors of sloths are megatherium and thalassocnus. Megatherium was a giant creature that was one of the largest land animals ever weighing a whopping two tons, and would tower over a modern sloth. Thalassocnus was actually a sea dwelling creature unlike the tree hanging sloth of today. Clearly sloths have already gone through a fascinating evolutionary process, so why wouldn’t it happen again. Here are three things that sloths could evolve to change: longer limbs for running faster due to no trees to hang on, sloths will find a new habitat underground so they will have longer and more curled claws for digging, finally larger hands for grabbing bugs and small animals due to less plant life to eat.
