The giant otter is a semi-aquatic mammal native to the rainforests of South America, it is the largest member of the Mustelidae family. They live on the banks of the Amazon river and depend on both the water and the land to survive. The long term effects of climate change on the rainforests is going to cause rising water levels. This will force the otters to move their nests further and further up the shore throughout their life which isn’t a sustainable option for the species. Due to this the best option for the species is to adapt to survive totally on land since they have lungs that are able to process oxygen in the atmosphere and are extremely flexible for climbing trees. They will have to develop grippier paws, darker fur for camouflage, and longer stronger limbs and tails to be better suited for climbing as opposed to swimming.
