The African Forest Elephant is an endangered elephant species currently on the IUCN red list (a program that helps conserve living creatures) as critically endangered. According to zsl.org, "African Forest Elephants inhabit the dense rain forests of West and Central Africa." The elephants survive in these rainforests from plants, fruit, and tree bark. Since the 1500s, the population of these elephants has shrunk by 98%, and now only about 415,000 of these elephants are left. Some things that are endangering their population are poaching, habitat loss, and climate change. In the future, there is a high chance of extinction for these elephants, and their habitat will be deforested and lost. If this situation is not resolved, the African Forest Elephants will soon be no more.
