The Brazilian Tapir weighs in at roughly 300 pounds when fully grown, around 3 feet tall and 7 feet long. They're herbivores with a love for bananas and are solitary animals, only interacting during mating season. Deforestation is sending the tree and plant population of the Amazon into decline. Mixed with the danger of pumas, jaguars, and alligators, Tapirs must evolve or go extinct. How can they survive? Tapirs already do epizoochory, dispersing seeds that stick to their skin. Tapirs will continue to get more habitable skin for seeds to latch on and possibly save the rainforest to an extent. Tapirs also hide in water from their predators. This may become a larger aspect of their lifespan, even developing webbed feet. After continuing to lose access to food, they will likely evolve stronger jaws and omnivorous teeth. Finally, they could start to travel together if they continue to be killed.
