The Cock-of-the-rock lives in the cloud forests in the Andes mountains in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. They have orange-colored feathers because males need carotenoids in their diet to produce the orange pigment in their feathers. It eats mainly fruit but they don't digest the seeds in their fruit; most colorful birds don’t digest the seeds in the fruits they eat. The Cock-of-the-rock will have to change its diet from a majority of fruit to just about only eating Golden berries. The reason they will have to make such a drastic change is that 100,00 years from now, the Golden berry will be the most produced berry that provides the Cock-of-the-rock with the most orange carotenoids. In 100,00 years from now, the Cock-of-the-rock will have sexual dimorphism; the females will have darker brown feathers, unlike the male's orange-colored feathers.
