Pygmy three-toed sloth (Bradypus pygmaeus) The present day sloth has long claws for climbing and defense. They also camouflage with algae too. They have a diet of mangrove leaves which are plentiful in their environment and they are covered in protective fur. They live primarily in the Amazon rainforest. The future sloth (tens of thousands of years in the future) has changed significantly. The main difference between present and future is the total loss of fur. The temperature has increased dramatically and they have lost the protective covering of the rainforest. Additionally they have much longer claws because they now have to burrow underground to get protection from the sun and for defense. Their current habitat is a barren landscape. Their diet has changed from mangrove leaves to worms and insects. The future looks bleak for our planet if we don’t change something soon.
