The Black Caiman is an apex predator that lives in the shallow waters of the rainforest, It has short legs but can move fast and powerfully with jaws able to effortlessly crush the bones of prey. The Black Caiman hunts marine mammals and land animals when given the chance. Due to deforestation and droughts, the rainforest is slowly becoming a savannah. In this new environment the Caiman must develop better resistance to heat as well as moisture control & conservation. The Caiman would also need longer legs so it can travel farther, quicker to reach water sources and hunt quicker prey. The Caiman would also need to develop curved fangs to keep prey from escaping from them. The Caiman’s would likely evolve to be smaller due to less food and water opportunity. The savanna’s dry environment could create food and water issues for the Caiman as well as prey.
