The following explores the effects of climate change on pygmy three-toed sloths. Today, trees make up the sloth’s habitat. They have long claws to help climb trees and soft fur. That will all change due to climate change. Studies have shown that every hundred years, it gets twice as warm, so in a thousand years, it will be twenty times warmer! As temperatures rise, wildfires will happen more frequently causing their habitat to be burnt down. As a result, sloths will be forced to live on the ground, leading to new adaptations like stronger legs and losing their nails since they only need these features in trees. Also, instead of their soft fur, they may grow spikes like a porcupine to protect them from predators, and have a tail for balance. One conclusion we can make is that as climate change continues to increase, sloths will sadly, eventually become extinct.
